BJP accuses Congress of suppressing mining scam reports in Goa

Panjim, Tue, 28 Feb 2012 ANI

Panjim, Feb 28 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Congress- led UPA Government of suppressing Justice MB Shah report on illegal mining in Goa.

BJP leader Nitin Gadkari told media here that the Congress was intentionally seeking so to save face before the Goa assembly polls on March 3.

"The UPA Government is suppressing contents of this report because of the elections, because, if the report is made public, the Congress Party will lose face," Gadkari said.

Goa's Congress Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has been accused encouraging illegal mining racket running into billions of rupees. The M.B Shah Commission was appointed by the government to probe the matter.

Gadkari said that the government in Goa was trying to outdo the corruption of their counterparts in Delhi.

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who was also in Panjim, dismissed Gadkari's remarks by saying there was no reason for the Congress to suppress commission's report.

"This much I can say, the commission was not appointed by Mr Gadkari's government. The commission was appointed by the Congress government. So what interest will the Congress Government have to suppress the report?", he asked. (ANI)
