Gilani says early elections in Pakistan can't be ruled out

Islamabad , Mon, 20 Feb 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Feb 20 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that early elections in Pakistan cannot be ruled out, and added that the issue could be discussed after the Senate elections in March and the presentation of budget in May.

"I do not rule it out," The Express Tribune quoted Gilani, as saying.

Earlier, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman had said that his party wants early and fair elections in Pakistan.

Expressing his reservations for the completion of computerized voters' lists, Rehman said that the lists would not be completed by May.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan had also demanded early election under the new and transparent voters' lists, and added that his party would avoid alliances with political forces whose leaders' assets were abroad.

"We support early polls. However, we want the general elections are held under new and transparent voter lists," he added. (ANI)
