Pak I and B Minister says NATO supply lines not restored yet

Islamabad, Sat, 18 Feb 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Feb 18 (ANI): Pakistan Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that NATO supply lines had not yet been restored and that only shipments of books for Afghan children had been released on the request of Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

The Dawn quoted Dr Awan as saying that the issues of NATO supply lines and drone attacks would be resolved according to the recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee, which was formed to review ties with the United States.

Earlier this week, Pakistan Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar had admitted that Islamabad had allowed NATO to use its airspace for ferrying supplies to troops stationed in Afghanistan.

"We have allowed them to transport food items by air to Afghanistan, since they were perishable. However, we have also told them not to bring more food supplies," Mukhtar had said. ast week, US Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter had revealed that Western forces stationed in Afghanistan were using Pakistan's airspace for crucial supplies.

The US wants Pakistan to lift the NATO supply route embargo since the financial cost of supplies through alternative means is much higher. (ANI)
