Rajnath Singh flays BSP, SP for betraying people of Uttar Pradesh

Varanasi, Sat, 11 Feb 2012 ANI

Varanasi, Feb 11 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rajnath Singh has flayed the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) for betraying the common man in Uttar Pradesh.

Addressing a rally here on Friday, Singh said: " The BSP and SP had obliterated the state.hen the SP was in power, there was an atmosphere of fear all around. There was a goon to be found in every nook and cranny, the women were not safe at all, there was corruption all around."

He also blamed Chief Minister Mayawati for promising lucrative packages to voters, but in the reality was an altogether different picture.

Singh said that Mayawati had made a commitment that if she came to power, Amar Singh and Mulayam Singh would be jailed, but nothing close to that happened in the last five years.

"In the 2007 assembly polls, Mayawati, during her campaign said that only I am capable of teaching a lesson to the leaders of the Samajwadi Party and she promised this to the public. Mayawati ji, I want to put up this question that five years have gone by, you could gather the courage to put both the leaders in prison," Singh asked.

Referring to the misuse of funds in the state, Singh said he was astonished that the money was not being rightfully used, subtly hinting that the cash went into the minister's pockets.

"The people residing in the villages and cities of Uttar Pradesh, the funds sanctioned for the health of these people, nobody knows where 50 billion rupees vanished out of the 80 billion rupees that was sanctioned?" said Singh.

The polls in Uttar Pradesh are being viewed as an opportunity for major parties to re-establish their foothold in the country's fifth largest and most populous state.

The poll results will broadly indicate trends for the 2014 general elections. (ANI)
