Congress workers fume over dissemination of ticket to non-Congress activist in UP

Noida , Sun, 05 Feb 2012 ANI

Noida, Feb 5 (ANI): The dissemination of ticket to non-Congress activist, V.S. Chauhan, from Noida constituency in Uttar Pradesh in the upcoming state assembly elections, has riled party workers who took to streets to protest the move on Sunday.

Speaking to mediapersons, Kriparam Sharma, a Congress party worker, said the Congress Party has nominated a wrong candidate, which has annoyed the party workers.

"Our main agony is that the Congress Party has given the ticket to a person who does not belong to the party, to the politics, and who is purely a businessman. The Congress workers are not able to tolerate this and decided not to contest election with such a person in this area," said Sharma.

The agitated workers were seen torching an effigy and shouting slogans against the functionaries of the state-level Congress party committee for being allegedly unfair to them.

Meanwhile, V.S Chauhan said: "I believe in my work and I will always work for the people. I am doing my work and I have been out since morning and if I will concentrate what is happening here then I won't be able to do my work."

Elections in Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven-phases of polling in the months of February and March this year and are being viewed as an opportunity for India's major parties to re-establish their footholds in the country's fifth largest and most populous state.

The result of the elections to 403-member Uttar Pradesh legislature would broadly indicate the trends for the general elections due in 2014 and the counting would take place on March 6. (ANI)
