Mayawati accuses Congress of showing step-motherly attitude towards Uttar Pradesh

Sitapur, Feb 2 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has charged the Congress party with promoting poverty, unemployment and showing a step-motherly attitude towards the state.

Addressing an election rally in Sitapur, Mayawati said wrong economic policies of the Congress had caused widespread poverty and unemployment in the state and people were migrating to other states in search of food and employment."

She blamed Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray for passing demeaning remarks against workers from Bihar and UP, who had migrated to Maharashtra in search of better job prospects. Our state government had to face a financial crunch due to the government's anti-Dalit mindset and political vendetta. As per the constitutional procedure, the Uttar Pradesh has not received its share of the federal funds on time," said Mayawati.

She said the Congress were practicing divisive politics by promoting reservation to Muslims.

"Instead of giving reservation to the backward sections of the Muslim community according to their population, the Congress party has conspired to give nine percent reservation out of the 27 percent reservation quota given to the other backward classes (OBCs). With this, the Congress party is trying to divide the two communities," said Mayawati.

Looking to silence her critics over the issue of lawlessness in the state, Mayawati said that her government was successful in preserving peace and communal harmony during the verdict of controversial Babri Masjid case.

"Our government was successful in maintaining the peace and communal harmony during the court verdict on September 30, 2010 over the state's most sensitive and controversial case of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi and Babri Masjid," she added. (ANI)
