Rajnath Singh accuses Congress of misleading voters with false promises

Barabanki, Wed, 01 Feb 2012 ANI

Barabanki//Gorakhpur, Feb 1 (ANI): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rajnath Singh has slammed the ruling Congress party for misleading voters with false promises during every election.

"The Congress party has lowered the status of the backward and poor in the country. Inflation and unemployment have broken all past records. Congress party has the habit of misleading the voters with false promises during every election," Singh told the media here.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya has slammed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati over corruption and said that there was the possibility of negotiation between her and the Congress party.

"Numerous cases are pending in various courts about the corruption done by Mayawati, however nothing has been done by the ruling Congress party to facilitate apt investigation into these cases. Is there any sort of compromise between Congress party and Mayawati?," said Somaiya.

He also said that the BJP stands against corruption, crime, inflation and hooliganism in the state.

"The BJP stands against inflation, corrupt practices of the Congress party, scams undertaken by Mayawati increasing crime in Uttar Pradesh, hooliganism by Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh, Talking on the lines of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, leaders like Mulayam Singh talk of 18 percent reservation for Muslims and work destructively in creating another Pakistan like situation .Our party stands against this and it is with this vision that we are contesting elections in Uttar Pradesh," Somaiya added.

The Uttar Pradesh polls are being viewed as an opportunity for major parties to re-establish their foothold in the country's fifth largest and most populous state.

Polls in Uttar Pradesh will be conducted between February 8 and March 3, and the counting will take place on March 6.

Uttar Pradesh will elect a new 403-member state assembly in March, and the poll results will broadly indicate trends for the 2014 general elections. (ANI)
