Oslo, Jan 31 (ANI): Two Norwegians have been convicted for planning a terrorist attack against a Danish newspaper that had published caricatures of Prophet Muhammad.
Chinese-born Uighur Mikael Davud, 40, was sentenced to seven years in prison, while Iraqi Kurd Sawad Sadek Saeed Bujak, 39, was sentenced to prison for three years and six months.
A third accused, Uzbek-born David Jakobsen, 33, was acquitted of terror conspiracy but sentenced to four months in prison for cooperating with the other two, The Wall Street Journal reports.
According to the report, between November 2008 and July 2010, Messrs. Davud and Bujak conspired to blow up the offices of Jyllands-Posten and shoot Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard.
The court said that Davud, who had received six weeks of explosives training from al Qaeda in Waziristan, would have placed the bomb.
Daily broadsheet Jyllands-Posten created uproar in 2005 when it published a series of cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad, whose visual portrayal is forbidden under Islamic tradition.
The drawings, including one by cartoonist Westergaard, provoked outrage and protests across the Muslim world.
Since their publication, several plots to attack the newspaper and Westergaard have emerged. (ANI)
