Prakash Singh Badal confident of victory

Lambi , Mon, 30 Jan 2012 ANI

Lambi, Jan 30 (ANI): Punjab Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal chief, Prakash Singh Badal has anticipated his party's victory in the state assembly elections.

After casting his vote, Badal said he was confident that his party would come into power for the second consecutive time.

"We will record a win with great margin. I believe we will get more than 80 percent of votes. The charges of corruption, inflation and unemployment against the Central Government has had a great impact on the nation and it is affecting these elections also," Badal told reporters here.

Prakash Singh Badal who is a candidate from Lambi constituency has never faced defeat from there.

Echoing similar sentiments, his daughter-in-law and lawmaker, Harsimrat Kaur Badal said that their party has worked very hard for the progress and development of the state.

"The current government has done lot of hard work for improving and developing the condition of the state. We are battling this election on the basis of development and people can see the progress in the state. There is no tough fight, it is just media hype, and it will be landslide win," said Harsimrat Kaur Badal.

Meanwhile, Congress candidate from the Lambi constituency, Gurdas Singh Badal who also happens to be the younger brother of Parkash Singh Badal, exuded confidence of his victory and is looking forward for a government, which would bring drastic transformation in the state.

"This is the third consecutive election I am fighting against them. They are very bright. The congress is going to form the government in Punjab. I think they will get over 70 seats. One is the anti incumbency factor. These people have not been able to perform at all," he said.

Speaking on same lines, Manpreet Singh Badal, president of People's Party of Punjab (PPP) said it is quite certain that Parkash Singh Badal would face defeat in the ongoing polls.

"It is sad that that Chief Minister will be defeated in these elections and I do not want this to happen as this is his last election. He has a played a major role and has a big contribution in the Punjab politics. Even being his competitor I feel sad that he will be defeated in his last elections," said Manpreet Singh Badal.

The ensuing polls are being viewed as an opportunity for India's major parties to re-establish or strengthen their footholds in the country's five major states.

The results of the polls would be declared on March 6. (ANI)
