Digvijay Singh pulls up Mayawati for funds misuse

Faizabad, Fri, 27 Jan 2012 ANI

Faizabad, Jan 27 (ANI): Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh has criticized Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati for her superfluous display of power, saying she is concerned only about amassing wealth to erect her own statues across the state.

"I have never been able to understand why does Mayawati erects statues of elephant (BSP symbol) in Lucknow at a cost of rupees one crore when the same money could have been utilised for the benefit of the underprivileged people in the state who are suffering due to acute poverty," Singh told media here on Thursday.

"This amount ought to have been used to feed their families and provide them adequate food and shelter. However, it seems Mayawati is not keen to do that. She has been only concerned about minting money," he added.

Singh also took a jibe at yoga guru Baba Ramdev over the latter's commitment to bring back black money stashed in safe havens abroad.

Asserting that Ramdev and his organization are themselves facing allegations of corruption, he said: "Baba Ramdev says that he and his forum are committed to work towards bringing Indian black money stashed in foreign banks abroad whereas on the contrary he is himself involved in turning his own black money into white and is involved in corruption cases."

He also dubbed Baba Ramdev as an agent of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Ramdev had earlier accused the Congress Party of looting the country for generations, and said that the present ruling party considers it their birthright to plunder the nation. (ANI)
