Virat Kohli's family lauds maiden test ton at Adelaide

New Delhi, Jan 26 (ANI): Family members of Indian middle-order batsman Virat Kohli hailed his excellent feat, after he slammed his maiden century and sparked a ray of hope for his team, which is still faced with a herculean task of preventing a 'whitewash' after conceding a huge first innings lead of 332 runs in the fourth and final test match against Australia in Adelaide.

Virat Kohli's elder brother Vikas said that the Young Turk's tally of 116 has made the family proud.

"We are very happy and this is a proud moment for all of us, it would have been even better if India was in a winning position, but anyway, this first test hundred in Australia is a great feeling," said Vikas.

Vikas dubbed it to be only a beginning for the youngster, who has already proven himself as a performer in the one-day game.

"No, it is a good thing, this is an achievement, but this is just the start of his test career, so I hope he continues to play even better innings and works hard, this is just a beginning," he said.

Further lauding Virat for his versatility, Vikas said: "The position in which he has been playing since his childhood must be his favourite position, but anyways if he has performed being at number six, then this is also an achievement for him, it shows his flexibility to perform at any position.

"So, that is about team management. As far as his achievement is concerned, we are very happy," he added.

Virat Kohli stood bravely amidst the ruins with a gritty 116 but most of the other top batsmen surrendered meekly as India folded up for 272 in the first innings. His delightful knock contained 11 boundaries and a six over deep mid-wicket.

Team Australia, which has already won the earlier three tests played in this series, is now in a commanding position despite Kohli's ton. (ANI)
