Police official injured in gun battle with Maoists in Bihar

Gaya, Jan 25 (ANI): A police official was injured in a gun battle with Maoists at Maigara village in Bihar's Gaya District on Tuesday.

 

Dinesh Mahto, the Station House Officer of Roshanganj police station, while heading an operation against the Maoists received a bullet injury in his thigh.

 

Mahto was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

 

Earlier, the COBRA battalion, the Special Task Force and the local police received a tip off about the movement of about 200 Maoists in the area and launched an operation.

 

According to media reports, the encounter lasted several hours.

 

The Maoists control a forested, and mineral-rich belt that stretches over 22 of India's 28 states. But their influence remains largely restricted to the countryside and small towns. (ANI)
