Lambi, Jan 17 (ANI): With assembly polls in Punjab right around the corner, state Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal has accused the Congress party for not fulfilling its promises.

"The manifesto that Congress has come up with they are never going to abide by it. First you tell me that the Congress party which is at the centre in the beginning had said that we will eradicate poverty, illiteracy, unemployment and corruption but they have done nothing. They just do the ritual of printing manifesto but they will never abide by it," Badal said while addressing a public rally here.

He further announced his agenda, which would be set in motion to bring the state in the top slot among the best cities of the world.

"We want to make Punjab the number one state in the world. Earlier also we have worked in this direction and will continue to work in this regard. We want peace and brotherhood in Punjab and in every state, village, district there should be all facilities that should be there and during the tenure of Congress nothing has ever happened," said Badal.

Later speaking to mediapersons, Badal defended his party member and candidate from Bholath constituency, Bibi Jagir Kaur, and her four aides who were booked for allegedly distributing liquor to voters on Saturday.

"Nowhere we have distributed liquor. I think that no candidate, even from the Congress party would do so. If some one does so, then there is no bigger fool than that person," said Badal.

Punjab is one of five states due to hold elections this year. As per the schedule planned by Election Commission, the state assembly poll in Punjab would be held on January 30.n Punjab, the main battle is expected to be between the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)- Bharatiya Janata Party alliance and the Congress party. Sukhbir Singh Badal, the Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab and son of chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, heads the SAD. (ANI)
