Solan, Jan 14 (ANI): Authorities in Himachal Pradesh's Solan District launched a plantation drive in a bid to educate residents about steps that need to be taken to protect the environment.

The three-day environmental awareness campaign, which started yesterday, was started by the local administration in Kandaghat Block District administration.

Several people volunteered to participate in the drive and play their part in spreading consciousness about the preservation of the environment.

"We have started this special campaign for three days to plant 10,000 trees through Bharat Nirman volunteers. These volunteers will plant 10,000 fruit-bearing, medicinal and seasonal trees in three days," said Prashant Deshta, Development Officer, Kandaghat Block.

"The prime objective is to inspire other people in the villages and motivate them to preserve the environment, especially since the environment is undergoing such a transformation," he added.

The volunteers were trained for local development under the 'Lab to Land' initiative programme of the Central Government.

The participants have 24 village panchayats on their itinerary and plan to plant 24,000 medicinal, seasonal and fruit-bearing trees.

The residents as well as the administrative bodies are contemplating to continue this drive.

"The plantation drive on the part of Bharat Nirman, where we are planting trees does not only include volunteers but also other people from the village. We are doing this to conserve the environment as per the directions of the government," said Babu Ram, a volunteer.

About 300 volunteers are participating in this campaign to spread the message of 'Clean and Green environment'.

The state government has kick started this movement, with a motive to preserve the environment as well as attract more tourists to the state. (ANI)
