New Delhi, Sep 29 (IANS) India's hopes in Junior Davis Cup were dashed as they went down 0-3 to USA in the semifinals at San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
Saurabh Singh lost the first singles to Evan King 2-6, 0-6. Yuki Bhambri then put up a valiant fight but went down 4-6, 7-6(6), 4-6 to Denis Kudla. Saurabh and S. Abhishek lost to Evan and Sarmiento Raymond 3-6, 6-3, 4-6 in the doubles Sunday.
India though had their chances when Yuki fought back and looked set to level the tie.
Yuki saved as many as five match points and won the second set after a gruelling fight in the tie break but was unfortunate as he suffered severe cramps in his thighs in the third set.
In the first set, Yuki broke Kudla in the third game but conceded his serve in the eighth to equal the score 4-4. Yuki was serving 30-0 in the 10th game but lost the serve with two double faults.
In the second set, Yuki was down 3-5 when he saved a match point and broke Kudla to level 5-5. The Indian then saved three match points in the 12th game and saved another in the tie break to pocket the set.
Yuki broke the American in the second game of the decider to led 3-0 and 4-1 when Yuki's legs refused to move with severe cramps. The physio's help was not good enough as Yuki lost the 7th and 9th game to lose the set.
India plays Russia for the 3rd and 4th position. Russia lost to Argentina in semifinals.
