UP Police manhandles Mulayam Singh??s kin
The Uttar Pradesh political battle between chief minister Mayawati and former chief minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) supremeo Mulayam Singh Yadav took an ugly turn when UP police slapped Mr. Yadav's brother Shivpal Yadav and rouged up Mulayam Singh's son while they were protesting the arrest of some students.

Just after the incident a large number of SP supporters started agitating on the streets and demanding chief minister's resignation over the issue. One Samajwadi party supporters was reported to have been killed by police firing at Ettawah.
Incidentally all these happened when students of a hospital were protesting against the Mayawati government's rule to impose ban on all kinds of student politics. Students at different places were protesting against the restriction on Student's Union election and police had lathicharged and taken a number of students into custody.
The protest was organised by the Jayanarayan Post Graduate College on the front side of Samajwadi Party Youth Wing (Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha). When Mulayam Singh's brother and son Akhilesh Yadav reached the spot to protest against the atrocities, they were handled roughly.
Later talking to media persons, Akhilesh Yadav said ??the police started it all and beaten up the security person of Shivpal Yadav and also taken away.? The SP chief meanwhile has accused Mayawati of playing politics of revenge.
