Cricket Australia refuses to axe Nielsen despite humiliating Ashes loss

London , Sat, 08 Jan 2011 ANI

London, Jan 8 (ANI): Cricket Australia has refused to take harsh decisions despite their humiliating Ashes loss to England.

It, however announced that it would be undertaking a thorough review following the embarrassing 3-1 series defeat to England.

Calls for coach Tim Nielsen and selectors chief Andrew Hilditch to resign have fallen on deaf ears, The Sun reports.

Nielsen has received support from Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland that his future as the coach of the team is safe, but admits he needs to change to reverse the fortunes of his under performing team.

Sutherland said Nielsen, who signed a contract extension before the summer to remain at the helm until after the 2013 Ashes series, would not be sacked, despite Australia's failure to regain the urn.

"He's doing a good job, there were very good reasons for him to be renewed in that role," Sutherland said.

Admitting the Ashes result was an accurate guide of the difference in the two teams' performance, Nielsen said it was not a true reflection of the difference of talent in the two dressing rooms.

"There's not a lot of difference, I believe, in the natural skill level or talent level of any Test players around the world," he said. (ANI)
