Pravasi Bharatiya Divas: A step forward
Indians have gone all over the globe, but are still connects through heart to their motherland. ??Pravasi Bharatiya Divas? can be cited as a proof of their love for their country when Indian Diaspora from all over the world comes together to renew their bonds.
The two-day sixth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas commenced here in the capital on January 7 in New Delhi aimed to addresses core developmental issues of the country by inviting expertise and knowledge of Indian overseas community and making them an active part of the whole process.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in his inaugural speech, after welcoming the chief guest Naveenchandra Ramghulam, the Prime Minister of Mauritius, cited a healthy trend in India 's economic growth and also commended governments' ambitious effort to raise savings and investment rates.
He also expressed his desire to create a framework that can facilitate the investment process for the non-resident Indians (NRI's) by providing profitable opportunities.
The theme of the ??Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2008' is ??Engaging the Diaspora: The way forward,? gives an opportunity to deliver opinion and have a better discussion. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh addressed the entire delegation and encouraged them to be active partners in India 's progress and prosperity.
Union Minister of Science and Technology Kapil Sibal and Chairman of Knowledge Commission Sam Pitroda mentioned the fact that India has knowledge based economy and also expressed their desire for making it one of the best ??education destination'.
Earlier, Prime Minister also reminded government's commitment to set up a PIO ?? Persons of Indian Origin ?? University for the benefit of students of overseas Indians across the world. The university is now waiting approval of the Union cabinet.
The Overseas Indian Affairs Minster Vayalar Ravi highlighted the bilateral Social Security Agreement with various overseas regions considering Indian population and signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with some Gulf countries on labour issues.
