Gujjar protest hampers jewellery show business in Jaipur

Jaipur, Mon, 27 Dec 2010 ANI

Jaipur, Dec.27 (ANI): The Gujjar protest in Rajasthan has hampered business prospects at the eighth jewellery show here.

The jewellery show will conclude today.

Exhibitors said their business has been affected badly as visitors are not able to reach the venue due to blocked railway routes.

"The Gujjar protest has hit the jewellery show badly. The tourists and local business man buyers are not able to come. The airline tickets which used to cost Rs 5000, their price has been raised to Rs 20,000 due to cancellations of trains. So, this has affected our business badly," said Digvijay Singh, an exhibitor.

Mahavir Sharma, one of the members of the Jaipur Jewellery Show, said though the business was affected marginally but still the serious buyers find out their ways of reaching out to the venue.

"The protest like this, the group protest of Gujjar community definitely affects the serious buyers. The people who are coming to buy the precious items, jewellery like things, they try to avoid coming to that area, may it be by Gujjar protest, may it be by blasts or extremist activities," said Sharma.

Trains plying to Mumbai city that pass by Bharatpur, Ratlam and Kota in Rajasthan were either rescheduled or cancelled as protesters of the Gujjar community sat on the railway tracks and blocked the train movement. By Lokendra Singh (ANI)
