Emphasizing that Delhi remains sensitive on the security point of view by being the National Capital he said that police will check for same randomly.
From January 15 onwards carrying an identity card will come to force, that is Delhiites have got 10 days time to secure themselves. The identity card that will be accepted are voter ID card, Driving Licence, PAN card, Ration Card or any other identity card issued by the government or private organisations like school or offices with the photograph of the holder.
??The decision to verify identity of citizens has been taken to step up security in the wake of recent terror attacks in various parts of the country. The checking would help prevent such incidents,? he added.
He said that if the person is unable to produce the proof then adequate action will be taken against him.
He also asked the Delhiites to be more vigilant and alert against any unclaimed packages and inflammable material in public places and the strangers in the neighborhood.
The Police Chief Y.S Dadwal said that they will come out with the advertisement on January 10 after reaching to the conclusion of all the acceptable documents.
??The idea,? he says, ??is to protect, not harass, citizens?
He mentioned that though police had earlier done so to check the credibility of the person but the drive will become more intense after the announcement by Lieutenant Governor for the same.
Earlier in December last year Traffic police initiated a drive to nab the jaywalkers but its report to Public Work Department police accepted that many of the traffic intersections have either no zebra crossing or the one having has faded over time.
After January 15 only we will be able to know the volume of problem one will come across but here giving an early announcement has not only made the things easier but has given ample time to the residents to have ID proof for themselves.
