Kiran Bedi now on new mission: "Mission Safer India"

New Delhi, Sat, 05 Jan 2008 NI Wire

Former Police officer and lady icon Kiran Bedi is now on a new mission after getting retirement from the Delhi police. She has launched yesterday an online complaining website under her mission “Mission Safer India” to help those poor whose grievances are not registered on the police file.

Kiran Bedi, who recently resigned the police service, is now working as a social volunteer with her founded Non-government organisation “India Vision Foundation” to achieve her goal to make India safer after quitting police uniform.

For reaching her project she has nexus with mobile mantra, an online service providing company to launch her unofficial website saferindia.com to make a bridge between complainants and police services to seek appropriate redress.

“The website is aimed at extending help to those whose complaints are not heard by the police. It will entertain only those who went to police stations but their complaints went unheard, unacknowledged or not registered,” said Bedi on the occasion of unveiling her website www.saferindia.com on Thursday in the capital.

Bedi beliefs that this website will make pressure to raise the voice of sufferer whose voice is unheard by the police. People can directly lodge their complaint on the website by completing the lodging process. The people have to login the site for submitting the grievances.

“We want people to know that there is a website called saferindia.com by which an ordinary man can log in a complaint by spending only Rs 25,” said former IPS officer Kiran.

It is essential for the complainant to first visit police station for submitting their complaint, if the police unheard or unacknowledged, then the victim can lodge the complaint as Bedi informed media while introducing its characteristics and functionality.

“The complaint will go under scrutiny and after approval it will forwarded to the concerned officer or police headquarter for redressal,” said Kiran Bedi. “The team of retired police officers, law students and NGOs will analysis the fairness of the complaint and then it will further forwarded,” added Kiran.

“The forge, defamatory, libellous complaint based on personal revenge will not be forwarded and comes under legal action,” said former IG of Tihar jail.

Bedi accepts that police deny to lodge complaint for showing reduced crime record many times and also mislead media and government by playing with crime record statistics to represent their good image before them.

“I have an inside of knowledge of policing and I know the strength and weaknesses of the department. This is the time for me to utilise my experience in serving people as an ordinary citizen. A lot of complaints go unregistered due to the callous attitude of police personnel. We want the common citizen to come forward and lodge genuine complaints. This would put a pressure on the police department to take complaints seriously and act accordingly,” said Bedi.

Bedi has clearly mentioned in the website that this website “is a bridge between the police and the complainant and Not an investigating agency”.

Bedi has resigned from Delhi police services when her demand of asking the top seat of Delhi police had been rejected by the authority and Y S Dadwal, who was junior to her got the same post last year. Serving as an IPS officer, Bedi had worked in several posts including deputy inspector general of police in Mizoram, inspector general of police in Chandigarh, director general of the Narcotics Control Bureau and as inspector general of police at New Delhi's Tihar Jail. She was the joint commissioner of training and also special commissioner in charge of intelligence when she had left the job.

Besides Police services, she has been the former all-India and all-Asia tennis champion, and won Raman Magsaysay award for her excellent work in India. She is the first lady IPS officer in India.

4. Dr. Kiran I always admired your work towards all sections of society, recent acts of terror is ruining our society and we have no clue to deal with this menence, I as a responsible citizen can suggest a few points to tackle these if the same may be recomended to the concerned departments 1. No free Wi Fi internets be allowed at certain malls, hotels , buisness establishments and any person using wi fi internet for personal use may please passwrd proptect it. 2. persons first brush with law is with traffic laws which are not strictly enforced as u did, if the offender is repramanded at first attempt and he knows that he cannot break law that easily , even terror criminals work will become difficult. 3. increase salary for our police, give them shift system of work, should be designated as officers and not as constables to enforce them sense of dignity and give them better food, dress and facilites when on duty looking forward to response sincerely yours DR. 10. Respected Madam, I am 22 yrs old girl working in a Reputed IT company in Bangalore and staying in a rented house btm layout along with 3 other girls all being north indians.one of our neighbour on 4/05/2008 at 10 pm came along with other 3-4 men and entered into our house wen we were having dinner with our 4 friends who were boys and collegues of one of our flatmates n shouted on everyone, banged the door of our house n broke the window n the glass piece hit on a girls head and it started bleeding.on informing the owner of the house ,he consoledc saying everything will be fine but dint come for immediate help.on the next day on 5/05/2008 9 PM inspite of informing owner not to visit us in evening as only 1 girl will be present at home and would be working late. he came to our house and told the girl at home to come down and talk with neighbour and girl refused to come out of the house, but by that time the same neighbour who created niusance last day came suddenly n started talking regarding not to put clothes in balcony and after the girl said tht they cannot do tht and will continue putting the clothes there only he slapped the girl who was alone at home in freont of 25-30 men. n kept and kept saying tht u north indians are spoiling the culutre of karnattaka and tht neighbour n his frens forced to vacate the house immdiately otherwise they would lock tht girl inside forever.wen 2 of her friends who were boys came for her rescue from the homethey were told to run n then caught n were beaten very badly, and injured one of them to a state thathe could not move only. Then the remaining flatemates along with other frens came home but were not allowed to enter the home.so we tried to lodge a complaint in station with they did lodge after taking lot of time and speking to the girls father who is col in ARMY.Then frens along with police constable went to rescue teh girl from her houseonly to see thatneighbour along with 10-15 ppl had locked the house with chains from outside which they did open on constablesrequestand the girl was taken to police staition where all her other frens were waiting and spoke to the seinor inspector on phoneand was told to come again on 6/05/2008 at 10 AM. On reaching the police station the following day,the neighbour n the owner were called to report to police station on which only the owner came but the neighbour who slapped the girl casually went to his job i.e as supervisor in BTL college in bangalore and after 3 hrs told that he will come only at 5:30 and not before that.then after waiting he reached the police station at 6:15.along with several men n started shouted infront of police, then we all spoke to senior inspector to which he easily denied tht he slapped the girl, then argument continued for 5 mins after he said"o.k i was just advising that girl like my daughter n n slapped ,u will slap me ,slap" this happened infront of the inspector.. then after 2 mins he said"u want me to applogise ok sorry, over na". at tht moment itself inspector satrted telling the girls in very loud voice that "let boys come to ur house only wen parents are there and not otherwise,he slapped because of this only"saying this he left and after that tht on forcing to write apology in english he statred shouting infrint of sub inspectors and constabe tht"this is karnattka and will write only in kannada even though u ppl do not know its not my problem"even on suggesting tht some one writes bak in english watever he says in kannada he stared shouthing again"i will break their hands n legs here only if some tells me to write in engish.im writing an apology that only more than enough, dont try asking anything more"n the police without telling him anything tried consoling us only.to adjust its ok this is karnattaka we have listen bow down to them if we dont want anymore trouble. he wrote the entire aplogy letter describing all false situation thn in last 2 lines he wrote because these pll complained complained against me for slapping so i applogise and want them to vacate immediately as translated to us by sub inspector, even wen he is not the owner of the house.he kept sitting in ploce station and abused us through out and police dint do a thing about it. All i want to know is that is this wat is called justice, bring 25 30 men to girls home in night and slap her infront of the house owner.then not to come to police station in specified time n then come to police station after finishing his days work wen all others have taken leave from office in hope of justice, then say one sorry that also as if he he doing some obligation by saying that, then shoutin police station, abuse girls there also without being harmed at alln then be successful in forcing girls to vacate the house immediately.its like he being 60 yrsold man slapped the girl of 22 yrs old and then even after police complaint he doesnt get harmed at all and forced the girls tovacate the house also.even though we girls complained against him, he won from every angle without having 1 % guilt of wat he did.if incidences keep happening infront of 30 ppl wat security do girls have.Hatred develpos for men, karnattaka ppl and police.it felt so helpless and we have lost all respect for police at this early age only and fed up of being a female in this state. 12. Respected Madam, People respect persons like you simply because there is no difference in your words and action. I, too am writing with a sense of belief and conviction in a rare woman like you who are born once in centuries. I am a Senior Lecturer In a well reputed Post Graduate college of Haryana and keeping with the moral ethics of a teacher i married a girl in an ideal way with out accepting anything from her parents at the time of marriage and even after that. Yet i am facing a case of dowry harassment for the last 4 years in Karnal. I am disillusioned with the way the police has acted in my case. All the fabrication was done by the police and even the officer of the rank of DGP Haryana accepted that the case is false but since in India they can not take action against a female i have to face the torture. Is this the country we dreamt of? Is to be born a male a curse in India? Mu old parents has done 40 years selfless service to the nation but i think they wasted their life for this dumb and corrupt country.I want an honourable death for them and want only JUSTICE. I have all the evidences of police fabrication. Kindly guide me. I am a shattered man today. I have knocked at every door but in vain. RTI, National Human Rights Commission alll say that they cannot take any action against a WOMAN? Guide me madam. I am ready to sacrifice my life for the sake of truth, justice and the future of this country. Surinder Kumar Verma
