Haripura (Uttarakhand), Nov.29 (ANI): Around 140 varieties of migratory Siberian birds arrived in the Haripura Water Reserve here recently.

Residents were excited about the arrival of the migratory birds.

"These birds (Siberian birds) come every year in large numbers during the winter season. The birds come to the water park known as Haripura Water Park," said Jagdish Chandra, a resident.

Forest authorities are keen to develop the Haripura Water Park as a prominent tourist destination.

"Around 140 varieties of birds are found in the wetlands in which Pochards, Northern Shoveler and different varieties of ducks come here. To welcome these migratory birds, the forest officials have to work together to develop this area as a bird watching or tourist spot," said Parag Madhukar, Divisional Forest Officer.

Birds like Northern Shoveler, Northern Pintail, Ruddy Shelduck, Red-Crested Pochard, Common Mergansar, Black Stork, Purple Heron and Indian Cormorant are some of the migratory birds that flock to the area. By Vipul Goel (ANI)
