Men travelling in Delhi Metro coach thrashed

Gurgaon, Fri, 26 Nov 2010 ANI

Gurgaon (Haryana), Nov.26 (ANI): The Gurgaon Police thrashed men travelling in the ladies coach of the Metro in Gurgaon on Friday.

The Delhi Metro reserves one coach in each train for women but men were found travelling in it.

Police constituted a team of ladies officers, who inspected the women coach and publicly punished the lawbreakers.

"We had received so many complaints in the last few days that men are travelling in the metro coach reserved for ladies. They harass ladies and women face problems. We also received complaints of eve teasing. That is why we created a team of ladies officers to take out boys who enter the ladies compartment," said Bharti Arora, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Gurgaon.

A lady passenger said that she was fed up with the stubborn hooligans but expressed helplessness in dealing with them.

"It (coach) is reserved for ladies, but still gents enter into it. It is very crowded, we can't fight all time but they don't listen, they fight with the metro staff, they argue back," said Mamata, a lady passenger.

The Delhi Metro Railway Corporation has deployed mobile squads to ensure proper compliance.

Children up to 12 years accompanied by women passengers can travel in the reserved coach. (ANI)
