'Security-a key strategy for London 2012 Olympics venue protection'
London, Nov 26 (ANI): In the midst of fears that the London 2012 Olympics venue could be targeted by terrorists, the British Security Minister Baroness Neville-Jones has assured that providing adequate security at venues has been a key strategy and claimed that techniques have been developed to deal with such threats.
"Designing in security has actually been an important part of the approach that we have taken. Techniques have been developed in this area which will be valuable in the future," the BBC quoted Jones, as saying.
Jones, a former Chief of the Joint Intelligence Committee, also said that the Olympics organisers are fully aware of the threats and would introduce strict security measures to stop any unscrupulous activity from taking place during the Games.
She further stated that the Joint Intelligence Committee is learning how to build buildings in a more secure way, adding that a series of national exercises would be conducted to test security procedures ahead of the Games.
Giving the reference of Beijing that suffered 12 million cyber attacks a day in 2008, Jones said that Britain should take more security measures so that the country does not become a victim of cyber criminals, the report said.
"The Games unavoidably are an attractive cyber target. What we have got to ensure is that it is not extraordinarily a soft target," she added.
Suicide bombers had killed 52 people in London the day after the capital won the right to host the Games. (ANI)
