Cape Town (South Africa), Nov.19 (ANI): Cape Town Police have arrested a second suspect in connection with the weekend death of an Indian-origin British tourist who was honeymooning in the area.

The New York Post quoted National Police Chief Bheki Cele as saying at a nationally televised news conference that the murder of a foreigner has once again highlighted the high rates of murder, rape and other violent crimes in the country.

Cele held the news conference in Guguletu, the township where Anni Dewani, her husband and a driver were hijacked late Saturday.

Gunmen forced Shrien Dewani and the driver from the vehicle. Anni Dewani's body was found the next morning in another township.

Cele said Thursday she had been shot in the back of the neck. He said she had not been sexually assaulted.

The Dewanis, married for two weeks, were honeymooning in South Africa.

Both suspects are 26 years old, Cele said. He would not say what charges the second suspect faced.

Cele vowed a crackdown on crime in Cape Town townships, which he said were overrun by gangs and drugs.

He said police would be targeting illegal bars known as shebeens. (ANI)
