Pak PM calls upon Muslim world to form a concerted strategy to counter terrorism

Tue, 01 Jan 2008 ANI

Islamabad, Sept 26 (ANI): The Muslim world should formulate a comprehensive strategy to counter terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, said Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani here last evening.

He said that terrorism had no faith and that laid stress on the need to ensure that the fight against terrorism did not turn into a clash between the West and the world of Islam.

"We also believe that it is vital to address the root causes of terrorism such as injustice, desperation, sense of humiliation and helplessness, economic and political deprivations in order to eradicate this evil completely. We also reject the canard of the so-called Islamic terrorism, as we firmly believe that terrorism has no faith," The News quoted Gilani as saying at an Iftar dinner hosted for the envoys of Islamic countries at his official residence.

He said Pakistan attached paramount importance to its relations with the Islamic world, which, he added, were the "cornerstone of its foreign policy".

Islam has come under increasing attacks in the recent past in the Western world, resulting in rising incidents of Islamophobia, he said and added: "This is mainly due to a handful of our misguided believers who, by their wrong interpretation of Islam, have made our religion the target of our detractors."
