Islamabad, Sept 26 (ANI): Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that Russia was willing to provide defence equipment to Pakistan to help it fight terror.

"Russia is willing to provide equipment to bolster Pakistan's counter-terrorism capabilities. It is also keen to enhance bilateral relations with Pakistan," Qureshi said at a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei V Lavrov, on the sidelines of the ongoing 63rd United Nations General Assembly session in New York.

"Pakistan and Russia can co-operate in several sectors, including energy, communications, gas pipeline projects and steel production," the Daily Times quoted Qureshi as saying.

About the Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline project, the Foreign Minister said that the Russian gas company Gazprom wanted to be a part of the project.

Demanding a "common understanding between Pakistan and Russia", he said that significant political developments were taking place in the region. (ANI)
