India has potential to increase its textile share in world trade: Dayanadhi Maran

New Delhi, Nov 2 (ANI): Union Textiles Minister Dayanadhi Maran on Tuesday said India has the potential to increase its textile share in the world trade from the current level of 4.5 percent to eight percent to reach 80 billion dollars by 2020.

 

Maran said that investments to the tune of 68 billion dollar across the textile supply chain will be required in order to achieve the growth of Indian Textile Industry targeted at 220 billion dollars.

 

"Textile sector will generate an additional 10 million direct and 20 million indirect employment," said Maran, while speaking at the convocation of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) here today.

 

On the occasion, he called upon the NIFT to double their efforts to make available the additional requirement of qualified technical personnel to the Textile Sector. (ANI)
