Haryana will be home to a nuclear power plant: PM
May 21: With the establishment of nuclear power plant, Haryana will be on the nuclear map of the country very soon.
While laying the foundation stone for 1,200 MW thermal project today, Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, that work on the new nuclear power plant will start soon in order to bridge the gap between demand and supply of electricity.

"A site to develop a nuclear plant has been identified at Fatehabad and work will start shortly. This will... Reduce power shortage in the state in the next three to four years", the Prime Minister said.
Singh further said that a meeting of Chief Ministers would be convened within a fortnight to evolve a time-bound strategy to reduce power shortage.
The latest nuclear plant in Haryana is an attempt by the centre to boost the generation capacity of the electricity.
Centre is likely to increase then number of such plants in near future. Centre is desperately looking forward to the final draft of the nuclear agreement with the United States, which will ease the procurement of fissile materials from the exporting countries.
While assuring the state government of the availability of coal and gas needed for running mega power projects, the Prime Minister said that "plan is afoot to end shortage of gas in the next three to four years."
