The Chief Minister has also ordered to take disciplinary action against the officer. The state authority after speculating Marikâ??s links with criminals outside the state, directed the state DGP Amarananda Pattanayak to investigate the matter and submit report within one week.
Marik currently work as director of Biju Patnaik State Police Academy. Earlier the allegation was that Marik had tried to escape some criminals who are lodged in the Bhadrak district jail after their involvement in a robbery case. This later made it clear that Marik was involved in the 23 lakh robbery case from Bhadrak LIC office last February.
The DGP after a complete investigation submitted his report to the administration. Taking all findings into consideration and discussing all these with top police officials, the state administration ordered his suspension.
But this incident has given the opposition, Congress, means to blame the state BJD-BJP state government. The Congress now demands a CBI probe of the entire case and made allegation that though the DGP had earlier submitted his report but the government was in constant effort to suppress the matter. It was the local newspaper who brought the issue to everybodyâ??s notice that later forced the government to take action.
Whatever the allegation the serious concern is that Orissa is also sheltering criminals like other states and criminal activities in the state are rising. The suspension a senior police officer of IGP rank is a good effort to start with and the authority now will have to take a hard look on such cases.
