Pir Pagara distances himself from Musharraf

Islamabad, Fri, 08 Oct 2010 ANI

Islamabad, Oct 8 (ANI): Pakistan Muslim League Functional (PML) President Pir Pagara has distanced himself from former president Pervez Musharraf. He said he and his party have 'nothing to do' with the former army chief.

"I have nothing to do with General Musharraf," The Nation quoted Pir Pagara, as saying.

He said he would hold a second meeting with PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain next week to decide the future course of action.

Pir Pagara decided to distance himself from Musharraf following differences between the former president and the Chaudhrys over the role each side says would play in the finalisation of the much-reviled National Reconciliation Ordinance.

Dr Sher Afgan Khan Niazi, a close Gen Musharraf associate, however said his party would continue making efforts to bring all Muslim League factions onto same platform.

He said it would not make any differences if the Chaudhrys and Musharraf did not work together and added: "Gen Musharraf is the only leader in the country".

Earlier, Musharraf had said that he had signed the NRO with Benazir Bhutto because of the pressure mounted by Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.

The PML-Q president, however, said Musharraf had taken the NRO decision on his own, and had informed them about it after everything had been settled. (ANI)
