CWG: Bindra, Narang to lock horns in 10 m air rifles, 28 gold medals at stake

New Delhi, Oct 6 (ANI): India will look to strengthen its position in the medals tally on the second day of the Commonwealth Games as 28 gold medals are up for grabs today with the most interesting battle between Olympian gold winner Abhinav Bindra and World Champion Gagan Narang, who will be gunning for gold in the 10 m air rifles (Singles).

 

The duo continued their good from on Tuesday by winning their first gold medals for India in the Pairs 10 m Air Rifle Mens event.

 

Bindra scored 595, while Narang scored 498.

 

"I just can't predict this one. Both are experienced shooters who know how to tackle the tension and perform on the big stage," said National coach Sunny Thomas.

 

World Champion Ronjan Sodhi will also be in action in the Double Trap pairs event and so will be Omkar Singh and Deepak Sharma in the 50 m Pistol singles event.

 

This duo too had on Tuesday won silver for India in the pairs event.

 

Virdhawal Khade, the lone swimmer to represent India in the 2010 Games, will also be in action on the third day fighting for a medal in the final of the 50m-butterfly event.

 

The Indian women's hockey team will clash with Australia today after ending their first match against Scotland with a draw.

 

Indian weightlifters Renu Bala Chanu (58 kg women) and Ravi Kumar (69 kg men) will also look for medals on the third day today after the weightlifters gave a dismal performance on Tuesday.

 

The Indian archery team, which one of the strongest teams in the competition will look to continue the good work in the team events.

 

Medal winning pugilist Jai Bhagwan will be in action in the Lightweight category.

 

Gold medals at stake on third day: Aquatics (9), Cycling (4), Wrestling (4), Shooting (4), Athletics (3), Gymnastics (2) and Weightlifting (2). (ANI)
