Macca hopes to spread peace through Israel gig

Tue, 01 Jan 2008 ANI

London, Sept 22 (ANI): Sir Paul McCartney has said that he hopes his upcoming concert in Israel would spread a message of peace in the region.

The former Beatle is slated to perform in Tel Aviv on Sept 25 for his first concert in Israel, reports the Daily Express.

The upcoming concert has prompted calls from a radical Muslim cleric in Lebanon to call off the show.

Macca told Sunday's Jerusalem Post that any high-profile event brings some worries.

However, he said, "most people understand that I'm quite apolitical and that my message is a global one and that it is a peaceful one".

McCartney said that he's thrilled about travelling to the Holy Land, though he considers himself "spiritual rather than religious".

Last week, Lebanese cleric Omar Bakri Mohammed urged Macca to cancel the visit out "of respect of the feelings of Muslims in Palestine".

However, Bakri has dismissed reports that he had made death threats against the legendary singer. (ANI)
