London, September 21 (ANI): One of the earliest number plates issued in Edinburgh fetched a whopping 397,500 pounds after going under the hammer.

The historic registration mark 'S1', which came to the market for the first time since its creation, was expected to fetch between 200,000 and 250,000 pounds.

"We're obviously delighted to have broken the world record yet again," Telegraph quoted Josephine Olley from 'Bonhams' as saying.

The much sought-after registration mark 'SI' was created in 1903, belonging to a top motor pioneer, Sir John HA MacDonald.

Included with the momentous plate was a DVLA v778 retention certificate that gives the owner the right to use 'SI' as the registration number for their car. (ANI)
