Conference of presiding officers of the legislative bodies begins

Chandigarh, Sept 20 (ANI): The 73rd conference of Presiding Officers of the Legislative Bodies of the country began here today.

 

The Lok Sabha Speaker, Somnath Chatterjee, inaugurates the conference inside the Haryana Vidhan Sabha complex.

 

In his inaugural address, Chatterjee said that important issues such as the time management in the house, code of conduct for members, need to strengthen public faith in democratic institutions and terrorism, a threat to national unity and role of legislatures will be discussed in the conference.

 

He appealed to the media to highlight the good work done by sincere and committed members inside the house and its committees.

 

Earlier, the speaker inaugurated an exhibition entitled ' A Journey forward' organised by Lok Sabha Secretariat and DAVP.

 

On Saturday, a conference of Secretaries of Legislative Bodies was held that discussed the issues to be taken up in today's Presiding Officers' Conference.

 

After inaugurating the Secretaries' Conference, the Secretary General of the Lok Sabha, P.D.T. Acharya said: "Anti-defection law and the role of the whip are among the subjects discussed at the conference."

 

He further said that the Rajya Sabha would have a separate TV channel on the pattern of the Lok Sabha TV channel to enable the people to view proceedings of both the houses. (ANI)
