Deepika Mohanty receives Biju Patnaik Award for Scientific Excellence

Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at a function organised at the Jayadev Bhavan Auditorium on Saturday evening presented a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh, a shawl and a citation.

The award was instituted in the memory of late chief minister Biju Patnaik to promote, recognize and provide financial support to Oriya scientists working anywhere in India and abroad to develop their research work that can be used for the benefit of general public.

The award recognizing committee takes into account various factors such as educational qualifications and research experience before finalising the name.

Speaking on the occasion Mr Patnaik states the importance of the science and technology in overall development of the society. ''Biju Babu could see much ahead of his times and realised the importance of the Science and Technology for overall development of our society'', he said.

President of Orissa Science Academy Basudev Kar, State Science and Technology Development Minister Sanjib Kumar Sahu were among other dignitaries present at the award ceremony.
