Delhi encounter hero Mohan Chand Sharma laid to rest

New Delhi, Sept 20 (ANI): Delhi Police Special Cell inspector Mohan Chand Sharma, who succumbed last evening to bullet injuries received during an encounter in Jamia Nagar, was cremated with full state honours at Nigam Bodh Ghat here today.

 

A Delhi police contingent paid a gun salute to Sharma, who won several gallantry medals for his exceptional courage.

 

Home Minister Shiv Raj Patil, Delhi Lt. Governor Tajinder Khanna, Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit, leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh, were among several leaders belonging to different political parties who offered floral tributes to the departed soul.

 

Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadhwal and several former police commissioners, officers and policemen were also present on the occasion.

 

Sharma led the team that killed two terrorists, who were suspected to be behind the Delhi blasts, and arrested another in the encounter on Friday.

 

The 43-year-old received several bullet injuries during the encounter. He was operated upon at the Holy Family Hospital to remove bullets from his body, but succumbed to his injuries. The officer received bullet injuries on his upper abdomen, upper arm, left shoulder and right hip. (ANI)
