Kathmandu, Sep 15 (ANI): The tenure of the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) that was set to set to expire on Wednesday is being extended for the seventh time for four more months.
A meeting of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to convene at the UN headquarters in New York today will formally extend UNMIN's term, Nepalnews reports.
The UNSC is taking the decision as per the request by the Nepal Government and the Unified CPN (Maoist) in Nepal, who sent separate but identical letters to the Secretary General of the United Nations on Tuesday for extension of the term of the UN Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) by four more months.
Both the government and the Maoists had agreed on Monday to complete the peace process in the next four months, among other things.
The caretaker Government led by Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and the UCPN-M inked a four-point agreement that pledges to complete the three-year-old peace process by January 14.
Earlier, both sides had sent separate and conflicting letters, confusing the UN Security Council as to what to do with its mission. (ANI)
