Govt. will regulate Private Sector in Education, says Chidambaram

Chennai, Aug.28 (ANI): Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram said here on today that the Centre would bring forward Bills in Parliament to regulate the private sector in the field of education.

 

He said education could not be allowed to become a money-spinning exercise.

 

Addressing at the Loyola World Alumni Congress 2010, Mr. Chidambaram said, as education for children is uppermost in the minds of every Indian family, it led to the mushrooming of institutions.

 

He also said that secularism and tolerance were important for the country and urged educational institutions to impart these values to students.

 

"I think what is important is we must ensure that the institutions impart quality education as well as impart the right values. And believe me friends, in India today, the most important value that has to be inculcated in everyone is the value of secularism and tolerance; every other value will follow," added Chidambaram.

 

Meanwhile, 73 personalities, all of them alumni of Loyola College, were honoured at the Loyola World Alumni Congress 2010, which was inaugurated by Chidambaram.

 

The awardees of the Congress, included prominent personalities from various walks of life including world chess champion Viswanathan Anand, politicians like Chidambaram and Union Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran, and film personalities like Radharavi, Sarath Kumar, and Vikram. (ANI)
