Peshawar, Aug.28 (ANI): An unidentified gunman opened fire near the US consulate in Peshawar on Saturday morning, alerting security in the area.

Firing started at around 5 a.m., leading security forces to cordon off the region.

Local television channels said more than one attacker was involved in the attempted terror strike.

Choppers were seen hovering over the attack site.

Reports said security forces have cornered at least one attacker.

Saturday's incident comes days after the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) warned of an attack on foreign aid workers involved in flood relief in the country.

A top American official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the TTP may attack foreigners participating in relief operations in the Pakistan.

"According to information available to the US government, Tehreek-e Taliban plans to conduct attacks against foreigners participating in the ongoing flood relief operations in Pakistan," the official warned. (ANI)
