Malaysian principal apologises to parents for making racist remark

Kuala Lumpur , Thu, 26 Aug 2010 ANI

Kuala Lumpur, Aug 27 (ANI): The school principal, who allegedly made a racist remark to ten students at a school in Bukit Selambau near Sungai Petani in Malaysia last week, has apologised to their parents.

The principal had allegedly scolded 10 Form Three students for eating outside the school canteen before morning classes began.

The students were eating there because the lights in the canteen were switched off. The principal had purportedly told them off for "not respecting" their Muslim friends and that they "should return to their country of origin if they did not show such respect".

Kedah Education Department director Shahidan Abdul Rahman said the principal met the parents on Sunday.

"Investigations are still ongoing and the principal is still working at the school," The Star quoted him, as saying.

He also said that he had submitted a preliminary report on the investigation to Malaysia's Education Ministry.

"We are waiting for further instructions from the ministry," said Shahidan.

Merbok MCA division secretary Chow Kok Leong, who received complaints from the parents, had claimed that the principal also made similar remarks during the school's morning assembly the next day. (ANI)
