Dec 12: A 53rd minute strike by ND Heroes Sohail aided his team to get past mighty Hindustan FC by a solitary goal to gain three full points in the league match of annual Delhi Soccer Association Senior division league played at the Ambedkar stadium here on Tuesday.
The newly refurbished Osian’s New Delhi Heroes continued their ominous run in the ongoing Delhi Senior Division League by registering a fourth successive victory in the championship thus far. The unbeaten streak is not only boosting up the confidence of Cheema Okerie’s wards but also clearly indicating that they are the logical frontrunner in pocketing this year’s title.
In yesterday’s match, both sides had their share of chances in the first half but they frittered away the opportunities that came their way as the teams went into the lemon break goalless in a chilly afternoon.
ND Heroes broke the deadlock eight minutes into the second half through Sohail, who positioned himself at the right place to guide the ball on the far left corner of the post with his deft touch.
After conceding a goal, Hindustan players pushed hard to level the scores but their hard effort didn’t bring them back into the game, as they could not be able to breach the stout defence of Osian’s ND Heroes.
In the other match of the day, spirited Shastri FC scored an easy 2-1 win against former DSA champion Simla Young FC. Basheer had put Shastri ahead in the 34th minute before inside-left Hare made it 2-0 in the 52nd minute.
Jonathan Kingsley’s 80th minute strike reduced the margin for Simla Youngs.
