Buddhadeb regrets Nandigram violence and administration thereafter

Dec 06:  At last after all hues and cries Chief Minister of West Bengal Buddhadeb Bhattacharya accepted on Tuesday that his government had failed administratively and politically in managing the situation there in Nandigram.

He admitted to have learnt a lesson and desired for peace and normalcy to return at Nandigram.

He revealed the rehabilitation schemes for Nandigram as the state government has initiated welfare schemes worth Rs 1 crore for the reconstruction of houses and towards building bridges and roads.

He said that he will announce further developmental schemes after the bureaucrats will submit the report after their return from Nandigram.

Praising CRPF occupation he said that they are doing good job and have made progress unearthing the huge accumulations of arms and ammunition by Maoist outside the state.

Buddhadeb Bhattacharya also apologised for saying his political opponents had been “paid back” in kind in violence in the beleaguered Nandigram.

“I should have not spoken like that,” he told to the reporters.

Though he carefully avoided queries on Taslima issues but asserted that no body can plant seedlings of communalism in West Bengal.

He shows his discontentness with the way UPA government is tackling the Gorkha hill Council Bill.

Briefing that West Bengal has not lost its charm; investment is flushing from many countries including US, Japan, Dubai and Singapore, he said that the chemical hub which created undiminishing violence in Nandigram has been shifted to Nayachar, which is inhabitable as well as the land there is not arable.

He also enumerated the upcoming plans of Steel plants in states and deferred any ill feelings towards the Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi.

Meanwhile, five grave mounds have been discovered in Khejuri a strong hold of ruling CPI (M).

The gridlock created after Nandigram was chosen to develop as a chemical hub in collaboration with the Salim Group of Indonesia, as a result the villagers were given notice to vacate the village which did not go well and violent protest erupted between the supporters of CPI (M) and Bhummi Uchched Pratirodh Samiti (BUPC) backed by Trinamool Congress.

Sexual and physical assault on women and children infuriated many as a result CPI (M) supporter were driven out of their home in Nandigram.

Attack and counter attack in the village by both the rival group further deteriorated the situation in Nandigram.

Recently, CPI (M) supporter tried to recapture the village as a result fresh violence erupted and many people died and injured.

CRPF from centre was roped in to control the situation hence amidst the echo of violence in Nandigram. Both Centre and state administration are trying to bring back normalcy in Nandigram.

But whatever, the state government was criticised for its incompatibility to control the situation; even there was a protest by its other supporter in the state.

Late Minoo Masani once a strong votary of Karl Marx had said, "I'm surprised if one reads Das Kapital at the age of 20 and doesn't become a communist. And even after 30 he remains a communist I shall be shocked!!" These were the days of the so called 'arm chair communists'. Now that the veil isn't there anymore, the least CPM ought to do is to shed the communist tag.
