Myanmar General Than Shwe visits IT hub in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, July 29 (ANI): General Than Shwe, the military ruler of Myanmar, visited the IT complex here on Wednesday.

 

General Shwe, along with an 80-member delegation, witnessed the rapid strides made by the twin Cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad in the software and communications sector.

 

General Shwe said that he was much impressed by India's competence in the global information technology sector.

 

He also hinted at the possibility of bilateral cooperation in the IT sector with India.

 

During his stay in New Delhi, General Shwe, signed several important bilateral agreements and treaties concerning a wide range of issues such as counter-terror cooperation, enhanced energy ties and collaboration in a string of developmental projects.

 

He also met President Pratibha Devisingh Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

 

A treaty on mutual assistance in criminal matters was signed between Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and Myanmar Minister of Foreign Affairs U Nyan Win.

 

External Affairs Minister S M Krishna and Myanmar Minister for Economic Planning and Development U Soe Tha signed a MoU between the two countries regarding Indian assistance for implementation of small development projects.

 

An agreement on cooperation in the fields of science and technology was also signed between T. Ramasami, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology and U Kyi Thein Ambassador of the Union of Myanmar, New Delhi.

 

India and Myanmar also signed a MoU on information cooperation and for the conservation and restoration of the Ananda Temple in Bagan. (ANI)
