Muzaffarnagar , Wed, 28 Jul 2010 ANI

Muzaffarnagar, July 28 (ANI): Police personnel baton charged hundreds of protesting Shiksha Mitra (contractual teacher) at Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh.

The teachers were demanding training, permanent jobs and better salaries on Tuesday.

As a part of their demonstration, they disrupted railway services, stopping a train at the Muzaffarnagar railway station.

"We were protesting in a peaceful manner. Some Shiksha Mitra had blocked a train but they had moved away and sat on the train roof, then the police started baton charging them. Many fell down and are injured," said Pradeep, a protesting teacher.

However, Arun Prakash, City Magistrate of Muzaffarnagar mentioned, a meeting was underway between representatives of the teachers and officials regarding their demands.

"We had a meeting with them and we had come to a decision and many were moving away after stopping a train. But a second group got up and tried to stop a Rishikesh-Delhi passenger train. There was no baton charge, we only asked them to move away which resulted in a chaos," said Prakash. By Sarfaraz(ANI)
