Shiv Sena activists stage protest against New Delhi serial blasts

Tue, 01 Jan 2008 ANI

New Delhi, Sept 15 (ANI): Activists of Shiv Sena took to streets in New Delhi on Monday against the alleged indifference of the Central government in dealing with those responsible for the recent serial blasts in several parts of the country.

The activists of the Shiv Sena marched through the streets of the national capital raising slogans against the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in the wake of Saturday's serial bombings in Delhi killing at least 20 people.

The protesters alleged that the UPA government is doing nothing to contain the menace of terrorism.

Shouting slogans 'crush SIMI', they demanded that the government should come down with a heavy hand against the Students' Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) suspected to be behind the blasts.

Gujarat police said recently that they have arrested some top ranking activists of SIMI allegedly being behind the serial bomb blasts in the country.

Jai Bhagwean Goyal, President of Rashtravadi Shiv Sena alleged that the Central government is completely indifferent to the problem.

"Terrorists are having a free run across the country including the capital and many people have been dying in terror attacks. But the Congress-led Central government is completely indifferent to the problem. The important leaders of the UPA Government like Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Union Railways Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan are patronizing terrorists. Earlier when people had demanded imposing a ban on the extremist SIMI, they had opposed the demand," said Goyal.

Five bombs exploded in quick succession in crowded markets and busy streets in Delhi on Saturday, killing 20 and injuring at least 90.

Two bombs went off in dustbins in and around Connaught Place, a shopping and dining area popular with tourists and locals in the city centre but the maximum causalities were caused by a bomb placed in an auto-rickshaw in a crowded market. The bombs exploded within minutes of each other.

Jaipur, Ahmadabad and Bengaluru were hit by serial blasts in recent months killing and injuring hundreds of people.

An outfit "Indian Mujahideen" has claimed responsibility for the blasts but authorities suspect it to be an offshoot of the SIMI. (ANI)
