Clinton unveils 7.5 billion dollar US aid package for Pakistan

Islamabad, Mon, 19 Jul 2010 ANI

Islamabad, July 19(ANI): U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Monday announced aid projects worth 7.5 billion dollars for Pakistan.

Clinton made the announcement at the beginning of a day-long "strategic dialogue" in Islamabad on the second day of her visit.

The five-year package will be funded under the Kerry-Lugar-Berman Act, which was agreed by the U.S. Congress last year.

The projects, which Clinton called "long-term investment in Pakistan's future," include the construction of several dams, improvements to hydroelectric power plants and the country's power grid, and the construction or renovation of three medical facilities.

Making the announcements, Clinton said that the US wanted to show that it cared about ordinary Pakistanis, and was 'not just securing Islamabad's co-operation in the fight against militants', the BBC reports. (ANI)
