Nandigram wants peace and security: WB Governor
Dec 03: West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi’s visit to the violence hit Nandigram on Sunday was met with protest by CPI (M) supporter on his way.
While he appealed for peace, the CPI (M) supporter shouted slogans against him questioning his whereabouts when they were attacked by Trinamool backed Bhumi Uchched Pratirodh Committee (BUPC).
Amidst protest the man with mission patiently lent his ear to the villagers living their life in fear. The Governor also went to Bhangabera, Sonachura, Kendamari, Gokulnagar, Adhikaripara and Garchakraberia where CPM workers surrounded his convoy and staged a protest against the alleged attacks carried out by Trinamool supporters.
The BUPC supporters in a similar tone narrated their plight after the alleged recapturing of their home by CPM supporters.
The Governor said, “It is time for peace to prevail. It is also important for normalcy to stabilise. I have seen rhythms of normalcy here with people going about their work. But most people are still living in fear. It will take some time for the trauma to subside.”
He said that people have shown trust in Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) functioning in the state aftermath of recent violence which is seen as a recapture by CPM cadre.
Earlier his word that what happened in Nandigram was unlawful and unacceptable miffed the CPI (M) government in state.
He even asked to punish the wrongdoers, “We have to go beyond what has happened, not exonerating wrongdoers, not at all. Wrongdoers must not be exonerated. The honourable high court has made certain observations and the Government should implement the honourable High Court’s order.”

The CPI (M) Politburo has begun its meeting to finalise a political resolution to be adopted at party’s congress in March next year. Apart from nuclear deal, allowing Taslima Nasrin back to West Bengal and Nandigram issue is likely to be kept at the centre of discussions.
