Argentina's defeat to Germany "kick in the face": Maradona

Cape town , Sun, 04 Jul 2010 ANI

Cape Town, July 4(ANI): Argentina coach Diego Maradona has described the 0-4 World Cup quarterfinal defeat to Germany as the "toughest moment of my life".

The 49-year-old, however, refused to comment on speculations that he may not continue in his role as coach.

"Having so many great players, this is really like a kick in the face. This sadness is really strong. It's tough because the wish was to go beyond today and be among the four best teams in the world," News of The World quoted Maradona, as saying.

"I'm totally disappointed like everybody in Argentina. Coming back home after losing is difficult for anyone wearing the Argentina colours. Am I leaving? We will see what happens. I have to check that with my family, with my players. There's a number of things I have to consider," he added.

He also believes that if someone does replace him as the coach, that person will follow Argentina's attacking style of play.

"I realize that as coach and as a player, the type of football people like is this one. Argentina is a country where we live and breathe football. No one is going to like that we lose 4-0," Maradona said.

"I don't think Argentina can play a different style. I believe whoever comes after me will follow this path. This is the way the Argentina people like," he added.

Miroslav Klose scored twice as Germany went through to the World Cup semi-finals with the victory at the Green Point Stadium.

Maradona's men were no match for a German team, who now have a great chance of making it through to next Sunday's final in Johannesburg. (ANI)
