Taran Taran, June 15 (ANI): A large number of Sikh devotees on Wednesday morning converged at Tarn Taran Sahib Gurdwara near Amritsar District on the occasion of 404th martyrdom anniversary of their fifth master Guru Arjan Dev.

It was on this day in 1606 AD that the Guru died at Lahore in Pakistan during the reign of Mughal Emperor Jahangir.

Devotees from across India converged here today at the gurdwara that was established by the Guru himself and took holy dip in the revered pond.

"At Tarn Taran Sahib, the founding place of Guru Arjan Devji, lakhs of devotees come with utter devotion in their heart to pay tribute to their guru. The devotees come in large numbers from various different places from around India," said Arjan Singh, manager at Tarn Taran Sahib Gurdwara.

Hymns and discourses on the life of the Guru were chanted across gurudwara premises.

On the occasion, a Langar or, free meal for public was organized and 'Chabeel', sweetened water and milk was distributed at various places in the city.

"Pilgrims from around the globe gather to observe the martyrdom day of the guru. Devotees also come from abroad to pay their homage," said Pritam Singh, a devotee.

Guru Arjan Dev, the youngest son of Guru Ram Das, the fourth Sikh Guru, was born in 1563 A.D.

Major contributions of Guru Arjan Dev were re-editing and compilation of the present Sikh Guru Granth Sahib and the construction of the Harminder Sahib, popularly known as the Golden Temple, in Amritsar.
